In 2018 the Australian Commonwealth Department of Health formed a group of nursing experts to provide advice on how the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) could be better used to account for NP contributions in primary healthcare. The
Nurse Practitioner Reference Group of the MBS Taskforce provided their final report in 2018, which was
summarily ignored by the MBS Taskforce in 2021. Recommendations arising from the NPRG are currently sitting with the Commonwealth Minister for Health.
